Project Activities
Rising costs and barriers to access have combined with rampant problems in quality to create a crisis in US health care. Public disclosure of performance information at all levels of the health care system will improve safety, timeliness, effectiveness, equity, efficiency, and patient-centeredness. This "transparency" will allow: (1) consumers to make informed decisions about their health care; (2) insurers and purchasers to incorporate quality into benefit design and make value-based contracting decisions; (3) providers to have information on their relative performance and support quality improvement efforts; and (4) public and private policy makers to focus resources on those providers, populations, conditions or geographic areas that show the most promise for improving care and addressing the inequities. The Disclosure Project recognizes that in order to foster improvement, there needs to be action nationally and locally across the entire measurement enterprise (i.e., measure development, endorsement, and implementation/use of measures).
